Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a medicinal plant native to the high Andes of Bolivia and Peru. It grows between 12.500 and 14,500 feet in elevation and its use as an important food and medicine by native Indians dates back to 3800 BC. It is highly nutritious, containing complex carbohydrates, protein, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, and polysaccharides. It is used medicinally as an immunostimulant, an adaptogen, and a general tonic, and is known to increase overall wellness and resistance to stress, anxiety, and illness. It is perhaps best known for its reported aphrodisiac quality. The use of maca may increase stamina, energy, and mental clarity. Our maca is low-temperature dried. It is organically grown in Peru and traded according to the highest fair-trade standards.
