About Gracias Madre:

When Cafe Gratitude hired its first Latino employee from the high plateaus of Hidalgo State, the integration of two communities began: Mission District vegan artists and activists joined with first generation immigrants from Mexico. As the community grew and mingled so did their foods. Terces and Matthew Engelhart headed south to their employees' pueblitos to share in the warmth and tastes of their mothers' kitchens. They then went on to create Be Love Farm, a 21 acre biodynamic rancho in California's Vacaville, and are now living in community with tres Mexicanos. Here, the "three sisters" (beans, corn, squash), along with the chilies and spices of ancient Mesoamerican horticulturists, have joined with the chlorophyll-rich greens and veggies and the seed/nut based cheeses of contemporary raw vegan culture. Our gratitude for Mother Earth has merged with a devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe to become Gracias Madre: a taqueria fused with both life force and thanks to the Divine Feminine.
