HONEY. The name alone evokes sweetness, endearment, hints of warmth and amber-colored delight. Used for thousands of years as food, sacred medicine, and in religions from all four corners of the earth, honey today is still a universally appealing sweet indulgence. Still, honey bees are perhaps under-appreciated for their contribution to our very lives: it is said that one-third of our global food supply is dependent upon bees for pollination. Thus, beekeeping is essential to agriculture (there are not enough wild bees to pollinate the world’s crops).

Medicinally, honey has a long history of use as a dressing for wounds and burns. Its aseptic, anti-inflammatory and healing properties also help to soothe sore throats and coughs, and may help prevent infections, and reduce pain and swelling. Honey’s wide variety of antioxidants, probiotics, and antimicrobials are intriguing to modern researchers, who have devoted many studies to this great remedy.

Our honey comes from a small-scale beekeeper named Jonathan Ryan who has been keeping honey bees since 1973. His colonies are located in the center of the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. The predominant floral sources are locust, clover, alfalfa, basswood, goldenrod, and aster, as well as a large variety of other wildflowers. Jonathan is a holistic beekeeper. Bee Love honey is unheated, unfiltered natural honey and contains all of the nutritional value and flavor derived from the honey and pollen…just as the bees made it!
